Baron's school
2012Up to the twentieth century, nobility plays an important role in Hungary. When the communists take over power in 1949, everything is taken away from the aristocratic upperclass and, subsequently, impossible for them to rebuild their life.
Communist cooperative
2012At the end of the 1960's, Hungary has the best economy of the Eastern Bloc. A period of political détante follows between the East and West.
New possibilities
2012On October 23, 1989, during the yearly memorial of the revolution against communism in 1956, the 'Third Hungarian Republic' is proclaimed, in which human rights will be respected.
Internationalization
2012In 1991 the last Sovjet soldier leaves the country. Hungary commits itself to economic reforms, becomes a member of the European Union in 2004 and is part of Schengen since 2007.
Tisza
2012Tisza Lake came into existence in the 1970's after several dams were built in the river Tisza. A new and very special waterworld emerged, where animals like the beaver, can live again. Also (very) protected birds nest there, the water contains about fifty different fish species an around lake Tisza you can find the largest waterlily field!
Pusta
2012Hungary is mostly made up of lowland and crossed by a long ridge. The Hungarian word puszta literally means bare and empty. Typical for the Pusta a.o. are the draw wells.
